Vicinity Manufacturing was founded in 2002 by Seth Abady, Paul Silvani and Randy Smith, with the focused goal to build a manufacturing system written specifically for and to serve only formula-based manufacturersnot as an alteration to a discrete/assembly system. Their efforts were based on a strong belief that, for years, formula-based manufacturing companies have been under-served by software companies that only partially understood the market and with technologies that grew old with the times. Their solution would employ the most appropriate technologies available and be engineered to foster growth as technologies evolve. This refreshing contrast to the old approach has helped Vicinity become the new standard for formula-manufacturing software.
Each founder brought tremendous industry experience to Vicinity's design and Seth and Randy continue to be a daily presence in our operations. Here's a bit of background on each of these leaders.
Seth Abady With a degree in computer science from San Diego State and more than 30 years' experience engineering and developing software for the manufacturing market, Seth heads up development efforts at Vicinity Manufacturing. He took what he has learned through the years in manufacturing, along with a keen understanding of software architecture, and formed the framework for Vicinity. Today, if you don't find Seth working on a new release of Vicinity, he's probably attending one of his kid's hockey games. Who would have thoughthockey in Southern California!
Paul Silvani Paul studied accounting and computer science at Albion College and earned an MBA from Michigan State University. He has spent much of his career working with manufacturing firms around the world, including in Thailand. Paul maintains his own consulting practice in Chicago, focusing entirely on batch-manufacturing clients. While Paul is no longer involved in the day to day running of Vicinity his contributions to the early stages of Vicinity do no go unnoticed. Best of luck to you Paul and all your endevours.
Randy Smith The Arkansas Razorback in the group, Randy obtained a degree in finance and computer science and worked for the traditional public accounting firms directly out of college. Randy owns a consulting firm based out of Atlanta that serves batch-manufacturing companies. He's part Arkansas southern boy, part Yankee transplant from New Jersey and Ohio, living in Atlanta. With a background like that, who is better equipped to head Vicinity?
